One of the first
sermons I ever prepared for was in High School.
Right after my Senior year, our youth group took it upon themselves to
start our own church services in the basement.
We set up a song service and divided sermon responsibilities amongst ourselves. I took one Sunday late in July as my day to
preach. I botched the message that
Sunday. I pocketed the sermon I should
have preached, and made up another on the spot.
This article comes out of my reflections on that message I never
preached. I have gained a lot of
perspective over the years. I have
always been awed by the simplicity and wonder of that message I never
preached. I’d like to share it with you.
